| Ooh. Yay, Marines. (Someone a fan of the 'Being Liberal' page, Oliver? I note the AddictingInfo link. ) I'm happy to see that people are really getting out there and doing something. I'm trying to figure out my schedule so that I can go to OccupyMiami down my way and then still have time to get ready and go to Homecoming. At least, if I don't get arrested. We'll see. | |

| I should note that having trawled the media today, I can't find any evidence of this actually having happened. It's certainly possible that the media are simply not covering it, of course. | |

| *notes quietly who the media is owned by*..
Whether this is just AddictingInfo being off or not, if you look at the comments there are apparently Marines saying that they were there/plan to go. And I recall hearing this elsewhere a day or two ago, I just can't recall where..

| Not the most neutral of news sources, I have to say. | |

| Possibility of YouTube videos? There ought to be a good amount of people down there recording stuff that might get uploaded. | |

I can only chuckle at this statement.

| We'd need proof.
They could go as individuals, not as a Marine Unit. The armed forces cannot operate on US soil without presidential approval, national guard units with state approval (natural disasters, etc). The Marines are not going to protect protestors as a unit, just because they like the message.

| ... which means if they do anything to resist an officer doing his duty, they'll be charged twice as hard. Trained soldiers in a melee/protest usually are. | |

| Meh. Scott Olsen served two terms in Iraq and was slammed in the head by a projectile leaving him in the hospital in critical condition. He's out now, regaining speech.
I wouldn't say all the protestors are..."resisting officers" nor that all officers are "doing [their] duty".

| That was a generic statement. Not all protestors are 'resisting', granted, that isn't the subject of this debate. The tone of that article was that the Marines were going to show up to stand off the police in favor of the Occupy movement - replying to that tone, the Marines would be in the wrong if they do.*
*In the eyes of the law. I'm not bringing up a moral or ethical argument on whether it's better to resist fascism, if the NYPD is in the wrong, or even if I believe that most of the NYPD are abusive buggers.

Edit: Clarified a thought.

| AddictedInfo actually is a horrible source. It's the left-wing equivalent of Glenn Beck. It's effectively liberal porn. It's fun to read, but not at all a good source. | |

It's fun to read, but not at all a good source. Oh yeah, for sure. Not that the mainstream media's been a particularly reliable source for OWS in any way.
